All 6 lessons in Multi-Digit Place Value & Number Sense

Builds on: PPV3

  1. 1. Periods: Reading Numbers to Hundred-Thousands

Extend the place-value chart to six places, split numbers into the thousands period and the ones period at the comma, read and write six-digit numbers in words (keeping zeros as place holders), and state the value of any digit.

  2. 2. To the Millions and the Ten-Times Relationship

Extend the place-value chart to a third period (millions), read and write seven-digit numbers, and derive the rule that moving one place left multiplies a digit's value by ten.

  3. 3. Expanded Form and Expanded Notation

Write a multi-digit number as the sum of its digit values (expanded form), rewrite each term as digit × place value (expanded notation), and rebuild a numeral from its expanded notation.

  4. 4. Word Form and Standard Form to Millions

Read and write numbers to the millions in words, handle a zero inside a chunk and a whole silent chunk, and convert both directions using real cheque and report amounts.

  5. 5. Comparing and Ordering Multi-Digit Numbers

Compare multi-digit numbers by digit count first, then by scanning from the left for the first differing place, and apply the method to order a set of numbers.

  6. 6. Rounding to Any Place

Round multi-digit numbers to any place using the digit-to-the-right rule, see rounding on a number line, round the same number to different places, and understand rounding bounds and why rounding twice can give the wrong answer.
