All 5 lessons in Linear & Quadratic Equations (Consolidation)

  1. 1. Linear Equations Revisited

Solve linear equations containing brackets, fractions, decimals and an unknown in the denominator, form a linear equation from a worded situation, and check the solution by substitution.

  2. 2. Harder Quadratics by Factorisation

Rearrange any quadratic to standard form, apply the null-factor law, factorise monic and non-monic quadratics, recognise the special shapes, and solve equations that become quadratic once cleared.

  3. 3. Completing the Square and the Quadratic Formula

Complete the square for monic and non-monic quadratics, read the least or greatest value from the completed square, solve with the formula in surd form and to two decimal places, and use the discriminant to decide the nature of the roots.

  4. 4. Sum and Product of Roots

Derive and use the relations between the roots of a quadratic and its coefficients: read the sum and product off any equation, construct an equation from given roots, find a missing coefficient, and use the relations as a check.

  5. 5. Symmetric Properties of Roots and New Equations

Evaluate symmetric expressions in the roots from the coefficients alone, form the equation whose roots are related to those of a given equation, and choose the right method for any equation in the unit.
